CNC Machining

CNC Machining is a process that aims to reduce process times, boost productivity, and provide more consistent results whilst cutting costs. Within this industry 100% accuracy is very important to ensure thousands of identical parts can be produced. This process aims to be much quicker than if conventional machining is used. An effective way to finish these parts is the wet blasting process. This can leave the part with a uniform finish, or prepare it for the next stage. The wet blasting method produces a consistent finish that can be achieved quickly and efficiently, whilst saving time and cost in all disciplines of engineering.

Vixen provides a range of machines for this type of industry. These can include the Aquablast range and the Jetair range. When a part is being machined, the tool that is used to cut the parts can leave marks which are undesirable. This means the parts do not look the same. Our Aquablast or Jetair cabinet will flatten out the imperfections on the surface of the part and will create a more aesthetically pleasing finish. This is an advantage for when you are producing a high number of parts and to ensure each part will look exactly the same.

At Vixen, we design and manufacture a range of Aquablast machines, including the 915, 1215, 1515 and the Cube. We can also build bespoke machines for larger companies that produce parts on a larger scale. These tailored machines are mostly inputted into large production lines, so they can keep up with the other machinery. For example, the machine can fit with the lathes and the robots, to ensure the whole process runs smoothly and efficiently. The machines are also designed to clean even the most complex parts such as oil sumps, cam carriers or even drivetrain housing. Parts such as these usually have tiny nooks and cranny’s that can hide dirt and lubricants.

Just recently the design team have designed and manufactured a multi stage wash plant which contains four stages: loading/unloading, high pressure wash, rinse and dry. The process begins with a robotic arm lifting the part into the loading bay and placing it into a jig. The part then moves through the three remaining bays to be thoroughly washed and to remove all dirt and lubricants. The parts are then rinsed and dried with the blower heads attached to the robotic arms.

“VTL had a requirement for the cleaning of a high precision Aluminium component with an extremely high cleanliness specification to go with it. The part had complex oil galleries that could not be cleaned by conventional methods. VTL went to vixen with a concept of a high pressure robotic system. Vixen helped to develop the system we have now. Because of the success of the first machine, we have now ordered a follow up machine for a new project. This machine is a key component to the success of our production line and Vixen stood up to the challenge” – Richard, VTL.
