Fibre Optics

Fibre Optics transmit light through two ends of a fibre rod and are made out of fine sheets of glass or plastic. Optical fibre can be used in lots of different industries such as hospitality, entertainment and multi-sensory displays.

Using glass for the fibre optics allows the light to travel through with reduced loss compared to using metals. The light is kept in the core of the fibre by the internal reflections. The internal reflections create a waveguide which allows the light to travel through the tube of the fibre. Some fibre optics have a light fitting to the end of the tubes such as; paver fittings, hermetic fittings and downlight fittings.

Quite commonly, the fibre optic light fittings can become contaminated with oils and machine fluids. These need to be removed prior to fitting. An ideal machine for removing these impurities is the Vixen Agiwash machine. This uses an immersion washing principle.

The Agiwash machine has an air-filled ram at 60 strokes per minute; this creates a flushing action to thoroughly remove any unwanted materials. This is very effective when cleaning tubular components or components which are complicated in shape and are impossible to clean by spray washing. The components are cleaned quickly and dry very easily which is important for saving time in production. The Agiwash machine will help when you need a lot of parts cleaned and dried quickly and efficiently.

Fibre optics can also be used for connectors in the marine industry. The Jetair VM36 machine has been formed for this particular application with the optional extras of a cyclone and extractor. Companies use this particular machine to key the connectors which roughens the surface to give it more adhesive properties. The cyclone and extractor help separate the waste from broken down abrasive, to the good reusable abrasive. This process means the abrasive remains constant in grade, and any dust and debri is removed to maintain good visibility for the operator.
